Matthew Hill | BSc, BCA, MSc Hons.
Geologist
Matt is responsible for tenement management, database and GIS development, prospectivity modelling and 3D structural modelling. Matt manages several permit portfolios for Kenex clients in New Zealand and Australia and works on data compilations and prospectivity models in New Zealand, Africa and Australia. Matt is currently a full-time student at the University of Western Australia with the Centre for Exploration Targeting where he is undertaking a PhD in geology and is working part-time for the Kenex office in Sorrento, Perth.
Matt is a Wellingtonian whose research and professional interests include:
- 3D structural modelling and fluid flow related to mineralisation;
- Structural geology of brittle-ductile shear zones in the Southern Alps of NZ;
- Emplacement and 3D ductile deformation of quartz and calcite veins;
- New Zealand neotectonics and Antarctic climate research;
- Business development and strategic marketing;
- Digital mapping solutions.
Matt’s PhD project is investigating the 4D structural, magmatic and hydrothermal evolution of the gold-copper-bismuth systems in the Tennant Creek Mineral Field of the Northern Territory, Australia. He will be using advanced digital datasets (e.g. gravity, magnetics, and hyperspectral data) in conjunction with new structural mapping to create 3D models using GeoModeller and LeapFrog software. New dating of mineralisation and intrusive events will assist with the understanding of how the mineral field began and evolved. Matt is also working on a paper for publication in the Journal of Structural Geology with colleges from Victoria University of Wellington titled: “Evidence for triclinic deformation symmetry and fabric weakening during ductile shearing at mid-crustal depths in the Southern Alps of New Zealand” and a paper on resource assessment for wind energy and mesothermal gold in western Wellington for the 2010 AusIMM conference in Auckland.
